“First-Hand Stories”

On 30 January at 18:00, we invite you to a special talk and Q&A session with the Ukrainian military officer Igor Litviniuk.

During the occupation of the Bucha region, Igor Litviniuk was a military officer, a colonel. He organised a group of volunteers and paramedic-rescuers that evacuated elderly and disabled civilians from the heavily shelled towns of Irpin, Bucha and the village of Hostomel. He served as the commandant of the bridge over the Irpin River and coordinated the supply of fuel and material and military support for the troops in the Bucha area. It was namely the Romaniv Bridge that became a shelter for thousands of civilians from the Pryirpinia area, who hid there during enemy shelling and crossed the Irpin River in March 2022.

Igor is one of the organisers of the “The Art of the Battlefield” exhibition. The aim of this exhibition is to honour those who escaped, perished during the evacuation or helped others to escape, as well as to remind the European countries of the horrors of war and to emphasize that the only true path to peace and harmony lies in cooperation with Ukraine and provision of continual support.

The exhibition features works by prominent national artists of contemporary Ukrainian art, once again proving that the force of life is stronger than the power of death and that Ukrainian fighters not only know how to defend their homeland, but also to create beautiful things.

Igor presently runs his blog where he shares regular updates on the current situation in the Ukrainian combat.

We invite you to come to the meeting and hear the story first-hand.

The meeting will take place on the 4th floor of CUP SC, in “The Art of the Battlefield” exhibition space.
