Educational sessions at “The Art of the Battlefield” exhibition

13 February, 2025

On 16 February, Lithuania celebrates its freedom. We invite you to mark the occasion by visiting “The Art of the Battlefield” exhibition and taking part in special educational sessions. On 16 February, from 1 pm to 5 pm, you will have the opportunity to learn about:

The Ukrainian national costume – its history, symbolism, and Lithuanian signs in it. The information will be shared by Ganna Dovbakh – a social psychology and cultural studies graduate, researcher, instructor, and project manager. For the past 10 years, Ganna has been passionate about preserving and researching Ukrainian national costumes.

Weaving “Lialki-Motanki”. The motanka doll (lal'ka-motanka in Ukrainian) is more than just a toy – it is a work of art filled with deep meaning and symbolism. It serves as an amulet, protecting its owner from negative influences and bringing good fortune to the home, acting as a talisman for the entire family. The motanka doll is known as the “Guardian” (Bereginya), a figure in Eastern Slavic mythology that embodies a woman’s strength, wisdom, and desire to protect and nurture her family. As mystical as it may sound, this traditional Ukrainian doll is believed to create a connection between generations. Therefore, if you own a motanka doll, you can expect the energy of your whole family to safeguard your home.

Vilnius Spiders – everyday volunteers dedicate their efforts to weaving camouflage nets to enhance the safety of Ukrainian soldiers. On 16 February, a special educational workshop will take place – weaving of camouflage helmets.

Everyone is welcome to join the volunteers in their work.

Wild Bees Lietuva – a community of 3D printing enthusiasts who have joined forces to help Ukrainian fighters to respond faster to enemy attacks and to carry out their missions more effectively. 3D printers are being used to print “tails” and other essential components needed by Ukrainian fighters. On 16 February, the “Wild Bees” volunteers invite you to take part in a meaningful tradition that dates back over 2,000 years – inscribing messages on weapons. During the Second World War, such messages were directed at the enemy. Today, “Wild Bees” invites you to dedicate your messages to Ukrainian fighters – to support and inspire them not to give up in this difficult combat. On 16 February, everyone is welcome to write their wish on a 3D-printed part. “Wild Bees” volunteers will package and send them to Ukrainian fighters as a token of support.

“The Art of the Battlefield – a unique exhibition where traditional Ukrainian decorative and applied art merges with elements of military munitions and remnants of combat operations. Since 2015, more than 200 craftsmen from different regions of Ukraine have created hundreds of unique works that have become powerful symbols of invincibility, creativity and longing for peace.

The exhibition is open until 20 February, on the 4th floor of CUP SC.
