This year, to mark the 150th anniversary of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis’ birth, the CUP shopping centre has been transformed into a lively space dedicated to the artist’s work. Vilnius residents and visitors are warmly invited to explore “The World of Čiurlionis” – a unique interdisciplinary art project that combines fashion design, contemporary interpretations and a creative perspective on the life and legacy of this artist.
The World of Čiurlionis is still relevant after many years
The creator of the concept and curator of the exhibition, Professor Jolanta Talaikytė of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, emphasises that Čiurlionis’ work remains deeply relevant today.
“Times change, we change, and yet the source of inspiration remains inexhaustible even after more than 100 years. The language of Čiurlionis' multifaceted creativity can be understood by everyone, everywhere, but most importantly – from heart to heart. His genius lies in the fact that he was able to create in two different languages at once – the language of art and the language of music," says Professor J. Talaikytė.
The exhibition aims to broaden the palette of artistic languages by integrating not only art, design and music, but also responding to contemporary themes such as intergenerational connection, education, creative exchange and the dissemination of Lithuanian culture. It bridges cultural memory with the present day.
