A unique exhibition opens to Vilnius residents: an invitation to look at the reality of war through art
To commemorate the Day of the Defenders of Freedom, a unique exhibition by Ukrainian artists, “The Art of the Battlefield”, was opened in Vilnius. The organisers of the exhibition point out that the artworks on display not only reflect the realities of war but also aim to show that beauty can still be found even in the most difficult circumstances. The main message of the exhibition – “The light of life always triumphs over the darkness of war” – invites visitors to muse and inspire hope, according to a press release from the organisers.
Art helps to survive the horrors of war
Olena Kulevska, a volunteer from the Ukrainian House, says the exhibition holds significance not just for Lithuanians, but for all European countries. It serves as a reminder that the war in Ukraine is not only a tragedy for one country but also a challenge for the entire democratic world – especially for countries like Ukraine that share a border with Russia.
“The aim of this exhibition is to present the truth about the atrocities of Russian aggression and to show the strength of the Ukrainian spirit. We want Lithuanians to see our country as it really is,” says O. Kulevska.
The exhibition is organised by the Ukrainian House in cooperation with the support fund “We Survived. We Will Revive. We Will Rebuild.” The exhibition partners include the International Ukrainian School in Lithuania, the CUP shopping centre, Vyshyvanka4U, and volunteers from “Vilnius vorai” project of Ukraine support group of the Lithuanian Riflemen Union.
This free exhibition is open to all visitors and will be on display on the fourth floor of the CUP shopping centre in Vilnius until 10th February.
